Shane Dawson Apologises For Doing Blackface Says He’s “Willing To Lose Everything”

Cut to now, the YouTuber posted an apology video but the Smith family has blasted Dawson for his actions.

Jada Pinkett-Smith and Jaden Smith called out Youtube Shane Dawson after a clip resurfaced where he appears to be inappropriately touching a poster by Willow Smith, then 11.

Per Us Weekly, the video in question featured Dawson, 31, pretending to pleasure himself to a poster of Williow, who was only 11 at the time.

"Oh, whip your hair back and forth", the YouTuber said in the video, referencing Willow's 2010 song "Whip My Hair". Willow Smith would've been 11.

In a twenty-minute video entitled 'Taking Accountability', he addressed his fans, saying he has done a lot of things in his past that he "hates", and he wishes he could make them go away.

"I'm done with the excuses", the Red Table Talk host tweeted, while Jaden Smith told Dawson he was "disgusted" by the controversial footage.

Similarly, Jaden made his position clear on Twitter on Saturday.

Shane Dawson is one of the original YouTube stars.

Dawson, who has almost 23 million subscribers, rose to fame on the platform about 10 years ago doing comedy sketches, which often included blackface and performing as characters who perpetuated racist stereotypes.

In another tweet, he added: 'This Man Was Also Doing Black Face On The Regular. "This Is Not Okay".

"Blackface was something that I did a lot".

While Shane said that he didn't want to "make excuses", the YouTuber cited his past trauma, the way his videos were edited (which he thinks framed his behaviour in an even worse light), and essentially trying to be amusing, all as reasons for this racist content. "I don't know who that person is anymore". "I was at least 20 when I started YouTube, and I made the decision to play stereotypes of Black people, or Asian people, or Mexicans, or pretty much every race", he said.

"Shane Dawson has remained one of the most popular creators on Youtube for over a decade, despite being "cancelled" multiple times for doing blackface, saying the N-word on video, "joking" about pedophilia, and more.

"I swear on my life, I am not somebody who would ever talk about a child, like in seriousness, I would never talk about a child in any way that is inappropriate", Dawson said.

"It is something I did for shock value or because I thought it was amusing or, like 'Oh my god, my child molester character, ' or whatever".

Dawson made no such promise in his own video, posted a day later, though he repeatedly stated throughout that he understands if his career is now over.
