Iran issues arrest warrant for US President Trump

After a meeting of the country's Supreme Judicial Council, Tehran prosecutor Ali Al Qasi Mehr announced the measures against the United States president and 36 others they accuse of being behind the January 3 air strike outside Baghdad that killed Suleimani and Iraqi militia head Abu Mahdi Al Muhandis.

Recall that the United States military killed Soleimani in an air strike outside Baghdad global airport.

Iran has issued an arrest warrant for US President Donald Trump and 35 others over the killing of top general Qassem Soleimani and has asked Interpol for help, Tehran prosecutor Ali Alqasimehr said on Monday, according to the Fars news agency.

The Pentagon said US President Donald Trump had ordered Soleimani's "killing", after a pro-Iran mob this week laid siege to the US embassy.

On January 3, Trump ordered airstrikes that martyred General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), in Baghdad's worldwide airport.

The prosecutor was quoted as saying that Iran had requested a "red notice" be put out for Trump and the others, which represents the highest-level arrest request issued by Interpol.

Interpol, based in Lyon, France, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The strike against Soleimani came after months of tensions between Tehran and Washington and saw Iran retaliate with a ballistic missile strike targeting USA troops based in Iraq.

It is unlikely Interpol would grant Iran's request as its guideline for notices forbids it from "undertaking any intervention or activities of a political" nature.
