California Governor Orders Los Angeles Bars to Close

California Gov. Newsom Orders Bars Closed in Multiple Counties, Including LA

He added that bars in Contra Costa, Riverside, Sacramento, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Stanislaus and Ventura are "recommended to shut down, but are not under order to do so", via Variety.

On Saturday, the state reported a rise of almost 6,000 confirmed virus cases from the day before.

On Sunday, California Governor Gavin Newsom ordered the closure of bars in seven California counties.

Newsom said the order was prompted because of the rise of COVID-19 cases and hospitalization rates across the state.

Newsom's decision marked a shift from earlier in the week, when he told reporters that each county was being monitored for increases in virus cases. Counties that have been on the state's watch list for three to 14 days are being asked to close bars. Sacramento County health chief Dr. Peter Beilenson last week told The Sacramento Bee he was concerned about the possibility of virus spread in bars.

Under Armour seeks to end record-breaking sponsorship deal with UCLA
UCLA and Under Armour's 15-year, $ 280 million deal was the largest in college sports history when it was signed in 2016. Under Armour hasn't received the expected return on investment given UCLA's recent struggles in its marquee sports.

In Kansas, Governor Laura Kelly imposed a statewide mandate requiring residents to wear masks in public spaces, a move she said was necessary to avoid another shutdown.

The alarm over the rising case numbers extends across California, where statewide cases topped 211,000.

Some officials are cracking down on scofflaw businesses while others are preparing to help overwhelmed hospitals.

In a statement, Newsom also recommended that eight other counties in the most populous USA state close their bars, as he urged Californians to "remain vigilant" against the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus. According to the county's data dashboard, as of Sunday, 82 patients were hospitalized with the virus. Imperial County, with a population of 175,000 people on the state's border with San Diego and Mexico, was ordered to reimpose stay-home orders amid a surge in positive coronavirus tests. And Belmont Park, an amusement park in Mission Bay, was closed Friday afternoon by officials who said it was operating rides in violation of state guidelines.

"The alarming increases in cases, positivity rates and hospitalizations signals that we, as a community, need to take immediate action to slow the spread of COVID-19", Barbara Ferrer, director of public health for Los Angeles County, said in a statement announcing the sharp upswing. In Los Angeles County, there are 1,717 people now hospitalized, higher than the 1,350 to 1,450 daily hospitalizations seen in recent weeks.
