Covid-19 latest: One death reported today and three new cases

Another patient has died after contracting Covid-19

The Department of Health has published the current Covid-19 reproduction number (R).

A rise of one on Monday, for the first time since 13 June, followed eight successive days when no new cases were reported in the county. On this basis, deaths of care home residents account for 50.7% of all COVID-19 related deaths; however, no assumptions can be made in relation to where or when the deceased contracted the disease.

1,734 people have now died from the coronavirus in Ireland.

672 people have been diagnosed with the virus in Westmeath.

Nearly 500,000 people have lost their lives after getting the disease since the outbreak began.

"World Health Organisation (WHO) analysis has shown the seven-day incidence of Covid-19 in Ireland to be among the lowest in the EU".

Covid-19 has been surging in parts of the United States, and in other parts of the Americas. They may or may not have previously tested positive for the virus. Over the last 12 weeks in total, 975 "excess deaths" (deaths above the average for the corresponding period in previous years) have been registered in Northern Ireland, with the number of "excess deaths" in the year to date to 19th June totalling 716.
