Trump, Sessions Spar as President Reiterates Tuberville Endorsement

Trump Sessions

"3 years ago, after Jeff Sessions recused himself, the Fraudulent Mueller Scam began", Trump wrote on Twitter.

Trump tweeted, "Alabama, do not trust Jeff Sessions". "He let our Country down", the President tweeted. "Recused yourself ON DAY ONE (you never told me of a problem), and ran for the hills".

Sessions is in the middle of a Senate Republican primary race in Alabama against former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville.

Trump fired back Saturday evening, tweeting that Sessions should "drop out of the race".

The victor of the Sessions-Tuberville runoff will face Democratic incumbent Sen. The decision drew Trump's ire and the president has continued to criticize the former attorney general in the years following.

Sessions left the Senate to join Trump's cabinet in 2017, but Trump grew upset with him when he recused himself from the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, including an examination of possible links between Russia and Trump's campaign.

LA County Eating places, Retail Won't Reopen Until July 4 At Earliest
The restaurant industry had seen 80 per cent of jobs lost, and 890,000 people in the film and entertainment employees were laid off.

No special counsel probe would have happened if William Barr, the current attorney general, was serving in the position at the time Sessions was, Trump asserted in early May. "Alabama, do not trust Jeff Sessions".

He is now running in the Republican primary to contest his old seat, which the Republicans lost to the Democrat Doug Jones in December 2017 after nominating Roy Moore, a hardline judge who spoke favourably of Vladimir Putin but was accused of, and denied, sexual misconduct involving women as young as 14.

The back-and-forth weekend explosion between Trump and Sessions is somewhat of a pivot for Sessions who, on Thursday, repeatedly praised the president and his "America First" agenda during a phone call with the Mobile County Republican executive committee.

"I was a central figure in the campaign and was also a subject of and witness in the investigation and could obviously not legally be involved in investigating myself", he said.

Tuberville has made Trump's belittling of Sessions a focal point of his campaign. "I intend to take my case directly to the people of Alabama".

Still addressing his former master, Sessions said Tuberville was "a coward who is rightly too afraid to debate me". Forced out by Trump in November 2018, he now hopes to return to the Senate.
