Three new cases as NSW nears half a million tests

Just In: New South Wales Bars, Restaurants and Pubs Will Be Allowed 50 Patrons From June 1

"We have demonstrated our capacity to process people in quarantine", Ms Berejiklian said.

Food and drink venues having 50 customers is just one of three relaxed restrictions that'll be introduced in NSW on June 1, with the Premier previously announcing that regional travel - including overnight stays - within the state will be allowed from the first of next month, and that cultural institutions, including art galleries, museums and libraries, will be allowed to open with restrictions. "There are strict guidelines in place, which will ensure that we can do this safely", Ms Berejiklian said.

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the Government was moving to swiftly and safely get businesses back in business and people back to work.

The premier announced there would be a limit on the number of people per booking.

Customers will have to be seated and each must be allowed four square meters (43 square feet) for social distancing.

When asked for a timeline of when gyms would be able to reopen, Mr Barilaro said the government was "working on that plan as we speak".

"What we are doing between now and 1 June is to make sure that the rules, regulations and guidelines are in place so that everybody adheres to them very strictly".

The Premier added that the NSW taskforce had been focused on making sure the roadmap to recovery was one with safety at its forefront, but also acknowledged that many businesses and operators would not survive the shutdown.

Virus ‘does not spread easily’ from contaminated surfaces, revised CDC website says
On Thursday, spokeswoman Kristen Nordlund told The Washington Post that the changes were due to an internal review and "usability testing".

"We're looking at all these restrictions coming off over the next month or so".

"Nobody will be able to take bookings of more than 10 people", she said.

"The government will have more to say in the very near future about what restaurants and cafes will look like in June and July", she told reporters in Sydney on Thursday. "You are keeping yourself, you are keeping a family, you're keeping your community safe, and also, the chances are that your test is going to be negative".

Western Australia already allows 20 patrons to be inside a pub at once.

Australian Hotels Association NSW chief executive John Whelan said 94 per cent of the hotels workforce had been stood down or sacked - but from June 1 the industry could start re-employing staff.

"Today is a significant step forward on the road to recovery for our industry and a welcome kick-start to the NSW economy".

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the move was a big boost for regional areas.

"It's opportune for us to consider when we can safely welcome back foreign students".
