New information released in Wood County COVID death

The Wood County Health Department confirms the death of a person in 30s from May 22 was due to COVID-19.

The county also received nearly 1,994 diagnostic tests results for the novel coronavirus - the highest daily return since the county began releasing those numbers at the beginning of this month.

"Everyone taking preventative action will help to protect the health and wellness of the community and it will also help keep Jackson County open", officials said. Identified positive cases are located throughout Mason County.

A total of 73 people in Mecklenburg have died with COVID-19 and all but one, according to health officials, were age 50 or older and had underlying health conditions which experts say increases the risk of severe complications from the virus.

"Many individuals infected by COVID-19 have not been tested because they are asymptomatic or do not meet current CDC recommendations for testing".

The county marked the first death attributed to the virus in southern OR on April 11, an 81-year-old man. The figure includes only COVID-19 tests conducted by Atrium Health and Novant Health.

"Today there is no change to the number of people recovered at 1455 representing 97% of all confirmed and probable cases as having recovered from Covid-19".
