Trump blasts mass absentee ballot efforts in Michigan, Nevada

The 100 Million Project

But on Monday, RNC chair Ronna McDaniel, who accompanied Trump to MI on Air Force One, appeared to support the very practice that Trump found objectionable in the state - and that has been used by Republican election officials in other states.

The president deleted his original tweet that falsely claimed she distributed absentee ballots rather than applications and posted a new one.

Trump also blasted Nevada's plan for mail voting for its primary in June. Without citing evidence, he said that there were forgeries of mail-in ballots and that "they send in thousands and thousands of fake ballots". And again, the history is that mail-in ballots are honest, and there is very, very little indication of fraud.

He added that a recent congressional special election won by a Republican that was conducted nearly entirely by mail-in ballot was "a positive case".

A group of Democratic-affiliated organizations, including the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and the progressive political nonprofit Priorities USA, had also initially sued against the all-mail primary, though they dropped their legal challenge after Clark County election officials agreed to expand in-person voting sites.

"With funding from the federal CARES act, I am ensuring every registered voter has the tools to conveniently exercise that right", she said. But he's convinced that anything that makes voting easier makes his defeat more likely, so he's apparently clinging to a nonsensical theory.

Ms Benson said on Twitter that Republican counterparts in Georgia, Iowa, Nebraska and West Virginia also were sending absentee ballot applications to voters.

WhoWhatWhy
WhoWhatWhy

Most of the staff in McDuffie County were sent home Tuesday after the absentee ballot clerk and front desk receptionist tested positive for the virus. Trump asserted that voting by mail is a "Voter Fraud path!" By Wednesday evening, Trump told reporters he had spoken with Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and did not think funding would have to be cut. Trump won MI by less than 1 percent of the vote in 2016.

"President Trump is correct".

All eligible voters in MI, which is in the middle of a flooding emergency, will be sent an absentee ballot application for the 2020 election. "Existing case law in MI supports that conclusion as well". The applications, which will be sent by U.S. Postal Service, will include a postage-paid return envelope.

"We have been clear that we can not have rogue state officials or activist courts making unilateral decisions", RNC spokesperson Mandi Merritt said.

"You must be a United States citizen to vote".

However, the President isn't attacking states with Republican governors who have switched to mail-in ballots. The absentee ballot addresses these issues by making it more convenient for those who may not have cast the ballot otherwise to vote. President Donald Trump did the same thing, taking a moment to vote - undoubtedly for himself.

Besides not accurately stating what is occurring in MI in his initial tweet, several people pointed out that the tweet appeared to violate Twitter's election integrity terms of service.
