Top Azure Announcements From Microsoft Build 2020

Microsoft builds massive AI supercomputer for OpenAI

In one high-profile example, Microsoft has joined with Amazon and others in a White House initiative that seeks to use supercomputers, AI and the cloud to address the coronavirus outbreak.

Today (21 May) marks the final day of Microsoft Build, an annual conference aimed at software engineers and web developers using Windows, Azure and other Microsoft technologies.

Last year, Microsoft was the first cloud to offer a generally available Azure FHIR service-which allows healthcare organizations to ingest and persist data in the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) format.

At this year's Microsoft Build event, the company announced a new AI supercomputer, a toolkit for creating "responsible" machine learning technology and an industry-specific cloud offering for healthcare.

Using JavaScript APIs, developers will be able to use Fluid Framework to build new collaborative experiences and while Microsoft isn't emphasizing this in today's announcement, its earlier materials around Fluid also emphasized that developers will be able to build intelligent agents that will work side-by-side with users as they create their documents. The 285,000-core machine, Azure, would have ranked in the top five of the supercomputer rankings.

Can I get the new Covid-19 antibody test?
Following a successful clinical trial, should the LAMP test prove effective during this pilot it will be rolled out nationally. Superdrug have said they are confident with the accuracy of the antibody test they are selling.

The tools aim to help developers understand, protect and control their models throughout the machine learning lifecycle to ensure that their models are behaving fairly. The model has been used to boost Microsoft's Bing, Office, and Dynamics software, the United States super-corp said.

The company claims it's the first supercomputer to use cloud technology in order to fine-tune artificial intelligence (AI) models.

Although the supercomputer itself was built exclusively for OpenAI, Microsoft plans to make its own large AI models and training optimisation tools available via Azure AI services and GitHub. Based on the feedback and excitement of all the customers in the private preview, we are able to deliver Azure Arc enabled Kubernetes in preview to our customers. The WhiteNoise toolkit was developed in conjunction with researchers at the Harvard Institute for Quantitative Social Science and School of Engineering.

However, Microsoft did not share actual performance figures for its machine. The Fairlearn toolkit was developed by members of the research group Fairness, Accountability, Transparency and Ethics in AI (FATE).

In just two weeks, Swedish Health Services, the largest nonprofit health provider in the Seattle area, used Power Apps to build a solution to track critical supplies, according to the company.
