Survivors Found After Plane Crash in Pakistan

Pakistani Flight PK 303 Crashes Into Homes in Karachi 107 Onboard

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane carrying at least 107 passengers has crashed near a residential area close to Karachi airport in Pakistan.

The deadliest air disaster on Pakistani soil was in 2010, when an Airbus A321 operated by private airline Airblue and flying from Karachi crashed into the hills outside Islamabad as it came in to land, killing all 152 people on board.

One of them was Zafar Masud, president at Bank of Punjab, he said.

Although rescuers have already reached the crash site, efforts are being impeded because it is located in a congested neighborhood and large vehicles are facing difficulties gaining access.

Photo taken with mobile phone shows smoke rises from the plane crash site in southern Pakistani port city of Karachi on May 22, 2020.

There were reports of injuries among people in the neighborhood.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan promised an inquiry into the incident and said he had contacted the PIA's chief executive Arshad Malik who has headed to the crash site.

It's the second plane crash for the Pakistani carrier in less than four years.

The Airbus 320 crashed into a residential area near Jinnah International Airport on Friday after witnesses watched it circle the runway three times.

At least 11 bodies from the scene have been brought to Jinnah Hospital, according to hospital spokesperson Seemi Jamali. "Our condolences to the families of the deceased, and wishing speedy recovery to those injured".

While there has been no official death count, Karachi's mayor said there were no survivors on board the plane - which various media reports say was carrying more than 90 passengers. TV footage showed rescue crews combing through debris strewn across the streets of the densely populated zone.

Officials try to salvage the wreckage of the passenger plan at the crash scene in a residential area, in Karachi, Pakistan.

Pakistan's civil aviation authority said the plane had 91 passengers and a crew of seven.

Dawn News added that the Minister of Health and Population Welfare has declared an emergency in all major hospitals of Karachi.

Pakistan has been in a countrywide lockdown since mid-March because of the coronavirus, and the airline has been using social distancing guidelines on its flights by leaving every other seat vacant.
