NCAA allows resumption of voluntary team activities on June 1

College football and basketball teams will be allowed to hold voluntary athletic activities starting June 1 and through June 30, the NCAA announced on Wednesday.

The NCAA provided some fantastic news that they are going to allow football, men's and women's basketball to return to campus on June 1 and perform voluntary workouts on campus with limited athletes involved.

The final say of having the student-athletes back on campus still lies in the hands of the local governments and with college and university officials.

UCLA suspended all athletic events beginning March 12, and with additional cancelations from the Pac-12 and NCAA, both the men's and women's basketball programs were unable to complete their postseason competitions.

Wuhan Bans Sale and Consumption of Wild Animals
Wuhan , the original epicenter of the coronavirus , has become the latest Chinese city to ban the eating of wild animals. But since then, a number of reports have said wildlife is still being sold in markets in China and elsewhere.

The vote doesn't mean that athletes can suddenly head back to campus, however. Many of those discussions have already happened in the West Coast Conference, in which schools have agreed it won't be necessary to implement a blanket rule preventing some institutions from partially reopening facilities if others can't when the moratorium period expires.

The waiver issued last month that allows up to eight hours per week of virtual activities will also be extended through June, The Athletic's Nicole Auerbach reported. Some remain under stay-at-home or safer-at-home orders. But this week, some student-athletes have been approved to resume campus workouts, should they choose to participate. Many states are still limiting the number of gatherings at a time.

We don't know of any schools that are not planning to play football in the fall and those decisions are still likely weeks away for the schools considering not having a season.

The NCAA has made it easier for college football teams to fill their 2020 schedule in the event teams have to scramble to find games amid the coronavirus pandemic.
