Dyson to provide 10,000 ventilators for the NHS

Sir James Dyson is best known for consumer products including vacuum cleaners and hair dryers

Dyson has received an order from the United Kingdom government to produce 10,000 ventilators to support the National Health Service's effort to heal coronavirus patients and will donate an additional 5,000 to help the fight against the global pandemic. His device is called the CoVent and is specifically meant to support coronavirus patients.

Dyson said the company had designed and built an entirely new ventilator, called the "CoVent".

In an email to staff, the inventor said his eponymous company designed the "CoVent" at the request of Boris Johnson, and promised to donate 5,000 to the worldwide relief effort.

But he stressed that any design would need regulatory approval.

One industry source working on a rival project told The Telegraph: "The more of these machines we can get into hospitals and the more companies working on it, then great, but this seems like using a national emergency as a point-scoring opportunity".

The company, which revolutionized the vacuum cleaner market with its bagless cyclone device in the 1990s, said it would work with regulators and the government to ensure that the product and manufacturing process were approved.

Meghan Markle stars in Disneynature’s 'Elephant'
A source quoted in various reports says: "If anyone can get Meghan back on a film set, it's Tom". " Meghan has lots of friends there and, of course, her mum Doria".

Prof Nick Oliver, from the University of Edinburgh's Business School, commented that time could be wasted if inexperienced companies tried to design and produce their own ventilators.

The company is manufacturing at least 15,000 of the medical devices - 10,000 for the British government, another 5,000 will be donated to the global pandemic effort.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said this week that the government is working to procure ventilators and other medical supplies amid the pandemic, and that they've already seen "a tremendous, positive response from companies".

A number of other firms had joined forces to potentially develop and manufacture a ventilator, including Airbus, Smiths Group Plc, Ford Motor Co and McLaren. Now, he's making 15,000 of them to fight COVID-19.

Britain now has about 8,000 ventilators with another 8,000 on order to come into the health system in a week or so.
