Clemson's Trevor Lawrence gets NCAA's OK for coronavirus fundraiser

NCAA rules shut down Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence girlfriend’s attempt to raise money for coronavirus victims

Mowry told her Instagram fans Monday that "Trevor can not be a part of this anymore due to compliance and some rules".

Taylor said he did not know if Lawrence and Mowry would restart their fundraising page. Despite their good intentions, it was reported that they were asked to deactivate the page by a compliance official, as it violated an NCAA policy that prohibits a player from using their name, image, and likeness for crowd funding.

The NCAA later reached out to Clemson about the fundraiser and said that it will allow "university discretion" on charities related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sadly, the Torch and Pitchfork Store in my neighborhood has been deemed "non-essential" by the state of NY but that turned out to be a moot point, as the NCAA quickly issued a statement to proclaim its innocence, and after further investigation, it turns out it was actually Clemson's compliance department that instructed Lawrence to err of on the side of caution.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and his girlfriend launched a GoFundMe page on Monday in an effort to help those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pair had planned on donating any money - it was near $3,000 on Monday - to Meals on Wheels and No Kid Hungry.

Federal government makes self-isolation for travellers mandatory
Earlier this month, the Canadian government followed the lead of other countries and closed their borders to foreign visitors. Freeland said the issue had been debated "at length" during the coronavirus cabinet committee meeting on Monday night.

Lawrence and Mowry, who plays soccer at Anderson University, had raised $2,670 before the page was shut down. "We continue to work with member schools so they have the flexibility to ensure that student-athletes and communities impacted by this illness are supported, and we applaud Trevor for his effort".

"Very much appreciate the NCAA looking into this and responding quickly", Clemson Athletic Director Dan Radakovich said.

Wetzel also points to the massive hypocrisy of requiring athletes to seek waivers, noting the NCAA lets their schools raise money off them with donors to feed their own coffers.

"We are going to keep doing the letters", she said. Before the NCAA contacted Clemson, Mowry had posted a video on Instagram Tuesday explaining the situation, thanking those who donated and apologizing for any confusion. "But we're still going to do our best to love on y'all and support one another during this hard time".
