CDC: Defer Cruise Travel; Inside the Princess Outbreak

The Diamond Princess seen here anchored at Yokohama Port to replenish supplies on Feb. 6 was quarantined off the coast of Japan in February after a cluster of passengers tested positive for COVID-19

Mark McGowan, the state premier of Western Australia made his message clear that the cruise ship "needs to leave immediately" in worries that it might infect more Australians and add to the already growing number of Australia's coronavirus cases.

However, the CDC says the findings did not show whether transmission of the virus was still possible via those contaminated surfaces, writing that "further study of fomite transmission of SARS-CoV-2 aboard cruise ships is warranted".

Mr McGowan said it would be up to the Australian and German Governments to organise plane to take passengers who came off the Artania back home. After review by health officials, it was confirmed five passengers and two crew staff are ill with COVID-19, DW reported. "And that's what we are negotiating with the federal government".

"Transmission occurred across multiple voyages from ship to ship by crew members; both crew members and passengers were affected; 10 deaths associated with cruise ships have been reported to date".

One week ago, passengers of another cruise ship became the primary source of the coronavirus outbreak in Australia.

The discrepancies echo similar tensions elsewhere.

Some state leaders have also flagged they are willing to push for tougher restrictions on social activities if Prime Minister Scott Morrison's government does not move fast enough. Bolsonaro, who has called the virus a "little flu", wanted schools and businesses reopened.

Iran has 122 new coronadødsfald in a day
Iran, through its state-controlled press organs, claims 8,913 citizens have recovered from the coronavirus as of Tuesday evening. There have also been calls on social media by USA lawmakers, including Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

The Diamond Princess, which initially had over 3,700 passengers and crew, was quarantined in early February off the coast of Japan, after a man who disembarked in Hong Kong in late January tested positive for the coronavirus.

The 800 Australians on the Vasco de Gama, due to arrive tomorrow (Mar 27), would be quarantined on Rottnest Island but its 150 other passengers would have to wait onboard for travel arrangements to be made.

Also, 109 New Zealanders are on board.

The MSC Magnifica cruise ship, carrying global passengers who are banned from disembarking, is seen docked in Fremantle Harbour near Perth, Australia, March 24, 2020.

"Now you're going to see 'coronavirus can live on surfaces for 17 days!' over and over, but we don't know that based on this study and for those using live virus, it's much shorter".

Further job losses are expected, with some economists expecting Australian unemployment to double this year to more than 11%.

Flight Centre on Thursday said a third of its 20,000 strong workforce faced temporary or permanent redundancy, while retail tycoon Solomon Lew's Premier Investments Ltd temporarily closed all stores in Australia.
