On Tuesday, Spain revealed the biggest boost in deaths in a 24- hour duration, with 514 more people losing their lives - a boost of 19 percent on the day formerly.

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles has said the country's army has discovered elderly people that were "absolutely abandoned" and "lying dead in their beds" in nursing homes.

Spanish prosecutors said an investigation had been launched.

The government will "be strict and inflexible when dealing with the way older people are treated", she said.

While Madrid long accounted for about half of Spain's coronavirus cases, data published on Tuesday showed it now had just less than one-third of the total, in a sign the epidemic is spreading throughout the country. Properly-equipped funeral staff are then called in to retrieve the body. Meanwhile, Spain has recorded over 35,100 infections of COVID-19.

It has emerged that COVID-19 victims have reportedly been found living with loved ones who are still alive.

Hospitals are also overwhelmed, and are turning away the elderly with coronavirus from nursery homes.

Spain has been hit particularly hard hit by the global outbreak.

An expert said the incident has brought to light the dire conditions of Spain's nursing homes, most of which lack personnel and resources, an issue unaddressed by private investors.

Spanish authorities hoped the country would reach the peak of the outbreak this week, which would mean that wide-reaching limitations on freedom of movement for 47 million residents had begun to take effect.

In Spain 2,316 people have died so far from COVID-19, according to real-time data compiled by US -based Johns Hopkins University, with over 32,200 confirmed cases.

A new government order has come into effect on Tuesday, ordering senior citizens homes to inform the government if they have any deceased people that they are unable to move out of the residence.

In addition to a field hospital, the city last weak turned two hotels into hospitals and is planning to do the same with five extra hotels in an attempt to manage the health needs of the increasing numbers of coronavirus patients. Spain, which has 40,000 confirmed cases, has said 14% of the cases (5,400) involved medical professionals. There have been so many people who died in the home where he was staying.

Health Minister Salvador Illa said residential care homes are "a high priority during this time" for the Spanish government, and it will exert "maximum control" over these centers.
