Everyone Who’s Visited New York City Should Self-Quarantine

WH Urges People Who Left NY Recently To Self-Quarantine

NY state accounted for 60 percent of all the new Covid-19 cases in the U.S. by Tuesday and nearly half the total cases, with 25,665 documented instances.

Birx said on Tuesday that people living in New York City - arguably the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States with more than 13,000 confirmed cases in the city alone - should isolate themselves from others if they have left the city for an area with fewer infections.

"About 56 percent of all the cases in the United States are coming out of that metro area and 60 percent of all the new cases are coming out of the metro NY area and 31 percent of the people succumbing to this disease".

NY residents have been leaving for Florida, North Carolina, and Long Island to escape the disease, prompting officials to express concerns about spread.

"About 56 per cent of all the cases in the United States are coming out of that metro area and 60 per cent of all the new cases are coming out of the NY area", Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus task force co-ordinator, said Tuesday.

"New York City is definitely a hot spot", Trump said.

"These cases are all over the country, it's not just in NY", he added.

"There's a fine line and a place to go that [balances] the needs of the American people both today and tomorrow with the reality of the epidemic".

NY needs 30000 ventilators to treat coronavirus patients
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: "We've all seen the pictures online of people who seem to think they're invincible". Donald Trump have said they're "optimistic" about about these drugs; both are unproven against the coronavirus.

As of Tuesday evening, NY had more than 25,660 confirmed cases, followed by New Jersey with 3,675.

"It's a very serious situation", said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a member of the task force who is himself a New York City native.

Brix said a cluster of new cases across Long Island suggests New Yorkers leaving the city for their vacation homes were spreading the virus.

DeSantis said people in NY "fled" after Cuomo announced an order for people to stay at home except for essential trips.

"That's about eight to ten times more than in other areas", Brix said.

"We're getting huge amounts of people flying in", he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that the state is expecting a sudden surge in the need of respirators.
