Did your Samsung Galaxy get a unusual notification? Here's why that happened

Samsung Galaxy users receive mystery 'Find My Mobile' notification, company apologizes

While some users thought that this was the result of an error, some users thought that their phone was hacked, and that the notification was sent deliberately by hackers. In a statement regarding the matter, OnePlus also said that they were implementing a new process to ensure such an incident didn't happen again.

According to one redditor who reached out to Samsung's customer service, it was all caused by a server glitch, so users who received the notification can very well dismiss it. When users tapped the notification it disappeared. "It scared the s** out of me, I thought someone got into my Samsung account and now knows where I live lol", one user says in the linked reddit thread.

The weird notification was met with concern by many recipients, some of whom saw it on Galaxy tablets, too. In order to perform these actions, the app has access to nearly all of the device permissions, which is why Samsung users have been freaking out after receiving the unusual notification. U expect Samsung will make an official statement explaining but I want to mention it now to hopefully put some of you at ease.

The company, however, is yet to provide any official statement on this blunder.

The electronics giant said the alert would not impact any phones or devices, and that only a "limited number" of devices had received the alert. This morning, Samsung UK confirmed in a tweet that, "This notification was confirmed as a message sent unintentionally during internal testing and there is no effect on your device".
