Trump Names Ambassador To Germany, Serbia-Kosovo Envoy To Intelligence Post

President Trump names Ambassador Richard Grenell to be director of national intelligence

In his temporary status as acting DNI, Grenell will not face a Senate confirmation process unless the president appoints him for a permanent position. Earlier this year, he held an event at the United Nations on the initiative and named each of those countries, although other human rights groups in attendance were dubious about the Trump administration's initiative. "...when people talk about the, you know, intelligence agencies...well I was not given a very good first glance at it".

Warner said that the acting appointments were an apparent "effort to sidestep the Senate's constitutional authority to advise and consent on such critical national security positions, and flouting the clear intent of Congress when it established the office of the director of national intelligence in 2004". Democrats denounced the shake-up at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and accused Trump of pushing out two dedicated intelligence professionals. The vacancies law sets limits on acting appointees in senior posts.

James Clapper, a former director of National Intelligence, said on CNN Thursday that he's not feeling safer in light of the pick.

During a signing ceremony marking the restored ties on February 14 on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic praised Trump and Grenell for helping to reach an agreement that he said will "ensure peace for future decades". "But beyond that his national security experience, though spanning a number of years, has always has all been in the communications and public relations spin category and I'm not sure that's ideally suited for speaking truth to power". Just this week, Grenell singled out in a series of three tweets targeted European politicians for complaining about the Trump's administration's approaches to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the European Union. Grenell was infamously fired from his role as national security adviser to the 2012 Mitt Romney campaign after a right-wing backlash over his being openly gay.

Mr Grenell is a former Fox News contributor and served as USA spokesman at the United Nations during President George W Bush's term.

Mediaite reports: A former Fox News contributor, [Grenell] is known to be a fierce online warrior, who has been unafraid to parrot the Trump line and lecture his host country, so much so that they called on the White House to recall him from his ambassador post in Berlin.

Last month, he took to Twitter when The Washington Post reported the Trump administration threatened to impose a 25 percent tariff on vehicles manufactured in three European countries, including Germany, unless they met USA demands for actions against Iran. Germany's defense minister confirmed the story was true the following day.
