Nevada's powerful Culinary Union won't endorse in Democratic presidential race

Sanders Backers Clash With Culinary Workers Over Health Care Proposal

"Medicare for All eliminates the profiteering of the insurance companies and the drug companies, and it does away with the incredible administrative bureaucracy that now exists when we're administering literally thousands of separate health insurance programs", Sanders said in a previous interview.

The non-endorsement isn't new for the union. The next contests in the state-by-state battle to pick a candidate to face Republican President Donald Trump in November's election are in Nevada on February 22 and SC on February 29.

In another flyer describing the candidates" health care positions, the union says Sanders would "end Culinary Healthcare" and "require "Medicare For All". Elizabeth Warren, who proposes a similar or same plan.

Recently, a leaflet was circulated to Culinary members attacking single-payer health care. The union, which is made up mostly of women and Latino members, has built up a health care program that's the envy not only of low-wage service workers but even well-paid professionals with run-of-the-mill employer coverage.

Sanders' rivals jumped into the fray on the issue on Wednesday, with the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg, touting his Medicare for All Who Want It, which does not preclude private insurance.

In another flier released last week, the Culinary union said, "We have fought for 85 years to protect our healthcare".

Johnson to chair Cabinet after ministers leave in dramatic reshuffle
That victory allowed Johnson to take Britain out of the European Union last month, delivering on his key election promise. Anne-Marie Trevelyan joins the cabinet as worldwide development secretary, having previously been a defence minister.

"It's disappointing that Senator Sanders' supporters have viciously attacked the Culinary Union and working families in Nevada simply because our union has provided facts on what certain healthcare proposals might do", Geoconda Argüello-Kline, the union's Secretary-Treasurer, said in a statement, without sharing specific attacks.

The flyers were first reported by The Nevada Independent.

And in another field, titled Good Jobs, it says all the candidates would strengthen union rights, but includes an additional bullet point for Klobuchar, saying she would "work with unions on regulations about technology at work". But his extra diplomatic strategy to coping with the Culinary Union hasn't been followed by way of a few of his supporters.

CNN has reached out to the Sanders campaign for comment.

On Thursday, the state's most politically influential union, Culinary Union Local 226, announced it would not endorse a Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race.
