Lawyer Michael Avenatti convicted for trying to extort Nike

NEW YORK NEW YORK- JULY 23 Celebrity attorney Michael Avenatti walks out of a New York court house after a hearing in a case where he is accused of stealing $300,000 from a former client adult-film actress Stormy Daniels

He still faces two additional trials for allegedly stealing Stormy Daniels' book advance and committing fraud in California.

"I am not surprised his dishonesty has been revealed on a grand scale", she said, after Avenatti was found guilty on all counts for trying to extort up to $25 million from sports-apparel giant Nike.

Former Stormy Daniels lawyer Michael Avenatti is guilty on all three counts he was facing, according to a decision by a jury in federal court in NY.

Sen. Ben Sasse released an official statement on the conviction of Trump-hating attorney and antagonist Michael Avenatti on Friday, and the Republican from Nebraska let loose his true feelings on the matter.

Prosecutors argued that Avenatti "devised a scheme to extort" Nike until the company agreed to pay the lawyer millions in an extortion attempt, according to its initial filing last March. The troubled California lawyer faces two more upcoming criminal trials over allegations that he defrauded clients, including Daniels (whose given name is Stephanie Clifford). "Nike has been cooperating with the government's investigation into NCAA basketball for over a year". Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles succeeded last month in getting him locked up after saying he violated his $300,000 bail by moving money around illegally after his arrest.

Senate votes to limit Trump's war powers on Iran, presidential veto expected
This aims to rebuke the president after the US drone killing last month of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad. If senators took their oaths seriously, votes to assert Congress's authority in matters of war and peace would be unanimous.

"Michael Avenatti is a D-list attorney but a Grade-A scumbag".

In the Nike case, prosecutors said Avenatti made demands of the company while representing Gary Franklin, a coach in California who claimed to have extensive evidence that Nike had been paying cash bribes to top high school players in 2016 and 2017.

After Mr. Avenatti threatened to expose the alleged payments in a news conference, Nike's lawyers contacted the Manhattan U.S. attorney's office, setting off a fast-paced criminal investigation in which Boies Schiller lawyers recorded conversations with Mr. Avenatti, recordings that were played at trial.

Nike has insisted there was no such deal and reported Avenatti to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Sentencing was set for June 17.

The judge limited what Avenatti could tell jurors.
