White House threatens to veto Iran war powers resolution

Most Americans Want Trump Gone but Think He'll Win Reelection, Poll Finds

The charges of Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress both passed by votes of 230-197 and 229-198, respectively.

"In fact, the president's decision to eliminate Soleimani has made war much less likely because it showed Iran that its terrorism would come at a price".

Trump's unilateral and likely illegal decision last month to assassinate Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani with a drone strike in Baghdad almost sparked an all-out war with Iran. Mr. Trump ultimately vetoed the measure and has vowed to veto the latest resolution.

Still, Kaine holds out some hope for a change of mind for the president since it's an election year, and he says the measure is consistent with Trump's argument that he would end these kinds of foreign entanglements.

"People are coming out because they have a president that is actually delivering on things he said he was going to deliver on".

Kaine said Wednesday the resolution is "not directed toward President Trump", but rather to the executive branch in general. Trump ordered the attack on Soleimani - who headed the worldwide Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) - having declared him the "number one terrorist" in the world. However, a few months later, the president ended the refueling of jets aiding the coalition fighting in Yemen.

Senator Marco Rubio, a close ally of Trump, said that Kaine's resolution would increase the risks of war.

Unveiled at the company's Unpacked event in San Francisco on Tuesday morning, the Z Flip will go on sale this Friday, February 14. And while the Galaxy Ultra is one of the most expensive phones out there (folding handsets excluded), the specs prove why.

The resolution asserts that Congress must be consulted for a declaration of war or an authorization of the use of military force before the president can engage in "hostilities" against Iran. John Thune, said Trump's killing of Soleimani was justified, calling the war powers resolution "an ill-advised and potentially problematic response to the president's action".

But the resolution, she said, will show that "no president has the authority to commit our military to a sustained conflict".

The investigations proved to be a fundraising boon for Mr Trump's campaign, even as the president was personally frustrated by the scar it will leave on his legacy.

Kaine said at minimum, service members deserve a debate on whether the US should enter into new wars. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) sent a letter to Leader McConnell urging that the Senate issue subpoenas for the testimony of four witnesses: Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, Senior Advisor to the Acting Chief of Staff Robert Blair, former National Security Advisor John Bolton and Associate Director for National Security Programs at the Office of Management and Budget Michael Duffey.

Last June, Collins, Lee, Paul and Sen. And yet, as the New York Times reported today, GOP lawmakers "were unmoved".

But those efforts gained renewed energy following a January 8 intelligence briefing that congressional Democrats and two Republican senators said did not sufficiently inform Congress of the administration's strategy in the Middle East.
