Trump and Cuomo Prepare for Tense Meeting on Immigration

Andrew M. Cuomo takes part in a regional cannabis and vaping summit in New York City New York U.S. October

Cuomo, in an interview with a Long Island radio station, said that he had spoken with the Department of Homeland Security after acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf's announcement that New York's new law granting illegal immigrants driver's licenses and blocking the federal government from accessing DMV records would prevent New Yorkers from applying for Global Entry programs, which ensure expedited cross-border travel.

Javier H. Valdés, the co-executive director of Make the Road New York, an immigrant activist group, urged the governor to fight for the state's immigrant rights when he meets with Trump. "These are people who go for an in person federal interview with all sorts of background information".

The department has already suspended that and other Trusted Traveler Programs for NY residents in response to a state law, and The Northern Light reports deputy secretary Ken Cuccinelli says Washington residents could be next.

The state already sued Trump's administration on Monday to void the Department of Homeland Security policy, put in place in response to New York's law passed last June that allows illegal immigrants to apply for driver's licenses. "You can't penalize New Yorkers for your political poster", Cuomo said.

Cuomo appeared on CNN Thursday morning before his meeting with the president, calling the administration's latest move, "extortion".

World Health Organization names deadly virus from China as 'COVID-19'
Another 108 deaths were reported on Tuesday - the first triple-digit daily rise since the virus emerged in late December. World Health Organization also wanted a name that was "pronounceable and related to the disease", he said.

More than a dozen states have passed laws allowing people who are not legal US residents to get driver's licenses.

New York's DMV database now includes people who are in the US illegally but who have driver's licenses.

"It's pure politics, and that's what I'm going to say to the president tomorrow", Cuomo said. He noted that people who are in the US illegally couldn't apply for the "trusted traveler" programs anyway because it would be tantamount to turning themselves over to federal agents. "And I think that's what they really want".

The governor and the president are expected to sit down together at the White House at 3 pm to discuss the Trump administration's ban on New Yorkers from taking party in the Trusted Traveler Program - that speeds up the process for citizens returning to the U.S. from overseas.

"I'm seeing Governor Cuomo today at The White House". He said that New York City residents understand the importance of ensuring people have proper identification when they enter the country in light of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the city.
