Ex-Sarah Lawrence Student's Dad Faces Sex Abuse Charges

Father Of A Former Sarah Lawrence Student Charged With Creating Sex Cult

This undated photo provided by the U.S. Attorney's office shows Lawrence Ray, an ex-convict known for his role in a scandal involving former NY police commissioner Bernard Kerik.

A 60-year-old Piscataway man who, after being released from prison moved into his daughter's Sarah Lawrence College dorm room was arraigned in Manhattan federal court on Wednesday on sex trafficking, extortion, forced labor, conspiracy, money laundering and other charges, said Department of Justice officials.

Sarah Lawrence College could not be reached for comment.

He convinced them they were indebted to him, subjecting them to "grueling interrogations" that spanned hours and deprived them of food and sleep, he said.

Ray has previously denied the allegations.

A NY man has been arrested after moving into his daughter's college dorm room almost a decade ago and allegedly sexually and psychologically manipulating her friends to create his own alleged sex cult.

The charges were announced by Geoffrey S. Berman, the USA attorney for the Southern District of NY, who said Ray was arrested Tuesday in New Jersey.

The U.S. Attorney alleges that Ray's domain name business was used to launder money he gained from psychologically manipulating several people and through a sex trafficking operation.

Lawrence Ray "exploited and abused young women and men emotionally, physically, and sexually", said U.S. attorney Geoffrey Berman. His first victims were his daughters' roommates, Berman said.

Prosecutors said he alienated them from their parents, persuading some of them to move into a Manhattan apartment and convincing them they were "broken".

Russian Satellites Stalking US Satellite - Space Force Chief
President Donald Trump established the Space Force , an independent military branch under the Air Force, in December. The US satellite is operated by the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), one of the major US intelligence agencies.

In total, he is accused of extorting about $1m from at least five victims.

During one instance of alleged abuse, prosecutors say Ray falsely accused a male victim of wrongdoing and then "placed a knife" to his throat until the male confessed. Prosecutors said Ray recorded some of the confessions.

Lawrence Ray "exploited and abused young women and men emotionally, physically and sexually for his own financial gain", ultimately extorting approximately $1 million from five victims, Geoffrey Berman, the USA attorney for the Southern District of NY, said Tuesday.

"For so many of us and our children, college is supposed to be a time of self-discovery and newfound independence, a chance to explore and learn all within the safety of a college community", said Geoffrey S. Berman, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of NY, in a press conference on Tuesday.

Sarah Lawrence said Tuesday that it has not been contacted by federal prosecutors but would cooperate "if invited to do so".

"At that time, the College undertook an internal investigation regarding the specific activities alleged in the article to have occurred on our campus in 2011; the investigation did not substantiate those specific claims".

"The charges contained in the indictment are serious, wide-ranging, disturbing, and upsetting", the statement said.

"As always the safety and well-being of our students and alumni is a priority for the College", the statement said. He made them pay by "draining their parents' savings, opening credit lines, soliciting contributions from acquaintances, selling real estate ownership, and at Ray's direction, performing unpaid labor for Ray and earning money through prostitution".

As alleged, through fear, violence, and coercion, Ray forced one female victim to engage in commercial sex acts to pay damages to RAY that she did not actually owe.

Federal prosecutors stated in the indictment that Ray made half a million dollars using one co-ed that he had "sexually groomed" and blackmailed into more than four years of prostitution.
