CDC confirms ME resident being tested for coronavirus

There are now 14 confirmed cases in the United States after a second person evacuated from Wuhan tested positive for the virus at a marine base in San Diego, according to Reuters.

The coronavirus patient is among a group of people under federal quarantine at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas, according to a CDC statement.

Only two of the 14 cases are believed to have been transmitted person-to-person within the United States - both between married couples after one of the spouses returned home from a recent visit to China.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials said the child was among the evacuees who arrived at MCAS Miramar from Wuhan, China last week.

The test will then be employed on people who develop symptoms as well as anyone returning from China's Hubei province and anyone who develop the primary symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath. After showing symptoms, the patient was taken to a hospital and isolated before testing positive.

While 195 people were discharged from quarantine on Tuesday, more than 600 people who returned on chartered flights from Wuhan remain under federal quarantine and are being closely monitored to contain the spread of the virus.

Just Announced: T-Mobile and Sprint Are Approved to Merge
T-Mobile and Sprint's merger plans are one big step closer to completion after a federal judge ruled in favor of the merger. T-Mobile, based in Bellevue, Washington, is owned by the German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom.

Passengers aboard a State Department-mandated evacuation flight from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak, have been quarantined at the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar.

On trial runs in some states, the kits produced results that were "inconclusive", Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said at a news conference on Wednesday.

"Obviously, a state wouldn't want to be doing this test and using it to make clinical decisions if it isn't working as well, as perfectly, at the state as it is at [the] CDC", she said, adding the problem was linked to a certain ingredient in the test, as per The New York Times.

Messonnier cautioned that at some point the United States was likely to see "community spread". The other deaths were reported in Hong Kong and the Philippines.

Officials have not said how numerous kits are flawed. They were allowed to continue on to their final destinations and self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days.
