A septuagenarian spat fit for Twitter — Trump and Bloomberg

Bloomberg condemned after 'stop and frisk' comments resurface

Wicked's video features many doctored images of Bloomberg which make him appear short, while audio from one of Bloomberg's campaign ads plays. Earlier in the week, Bloomberg secured the endorsement of a handful of black members of Congress.

At the height of the 2008 economic collapse, then-New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said the elimination of a discriminatory housing practice known as redlining was responsible for instigating the meltdown.

US President Donald Trump tweeted that Democratic presidential hopeful and multi-billionaire Michael Bloomberg is a "total racist".

Progressive podcaster Benjamin Dixon posted the audio on Monday afternoon, explaining how Bloomberg's "racist explanation and justification" for the notorious stop-and-frisk policy of the New York Police Department under his mayoralty "shows that he operates from a deeply troubling framework".

In a pre-Super Bowl interview this month, Trump said he thinks "of little" when he hears Bloomberg's name.

But Bloomberg's self-funded campaign and blanket television and radio advertisements have captured Trump's attention, even as the onetime mayor has yet to win any delegates.

What does Bloomberg say now about "stop and frisk"? According to statistics, around 90 percent of those stopped and frisked were African-American or Latino, while the same two groups were found to represent 74 percent of arrests as a result of the searches. The anti-crime tactic involves police officers stopping, questioning and searching pedestrians for weapons or contraband.

"You can just take the description, Xerox it and pass it out to all the cops".

He added: "Put those cops where the crime is, which is in the minority neighbourhoods".

Mr Bloomberg, who built his $62bn (£48bn) fortune on data terminals widely used in the financial industry, has so far ploughed a mammoth $300m into his 2020 Democratic campaign for the White House.

Ninth coronavirus case diagnosed in United Kingdom as virus spreads to capital
Walsh said as soon as he realized he was exposed to a confirmed case of the virus, he spoke to his doctor and health officials. Health officials in Brighton are now trying to trace patients of the two healthcare workers diagnosed with the virus strain.

"There's so much content to be unearthed", she said.

Ruhle reported from NY, and Lederman and Barrett from Chattanooga. "That's a lot of talking".

Symone Sanders, a top adviser to Biden's campaign, called the comments "sad and despicable", and said Bloomberg "will have to answer for these comments". "I regret that and I have apologized". "It was five years ago".

Bloomberg, whose wealth Forbes estimates at $61.8bn, continued: "I have the record & the resources to defeat you". "Redlining, if you remember, was the term where banks took whole neighborhoods and said, 'People in these neighborhoods are poor, they're not going to be able to pay off their mortgages, tell your salesmen don't go into those areas'".

"Will people get their records expunged?"

"People of colour were sold trick loans with exploding interest rates created to push them into foreclosure", she said. "Our communities of color and low-income communities were the victims of the crash, not the cause".

In another tweet, the president offered something of a backhanded compliment to Bloomberg, writing that he could beat Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

A day after an audio clip emerged of Bloomberg bluntly defending the stop-and-frisk policy he oversaw as mayor, Bloomberg's campaign manager, Kevin Sheekey, sought to portray it as an indication Trump is anxious about Bloomberg's rise and the prospect of running against him in the general election.

On Tuesday, Bloomberg faced sharp criticism from opponents.
