These and other works posthumously published by the younger Tolkien expanded upon the world of elves and hobbits, dwarves and wizards that had been created in "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit".

He joined the Royal Air Force during World War II and was stationed in South Africa. He has died, the Tolkien Society announced Thursday.

"No one has done more to enrich JRR Tolkien's legacy".

He said: "As odd as it may seem, I grew up in the world he created".

He signed off his work as "CJRT", going by his full name Christopher John Reuel Tolkien, in the same manner as his father. The Guardian reports that Christopher was even responsible for drawing numerous original maps for his father's Lord of the Rings novels. "After the war, he finished his studies and became a lecturer in Old and Middle English as well as Old Icelandic at the University of Oxford", the Tolkien Society said.

Mark Ordesky, producer on The Lord of the Rings movies, expressed his condolences on social media, tweeting, "An age of Middle-earth has ended".

Robots called xenobots constructed as 'living programmable organism'
Finally, these cells were cut and joined together under a microscope in a close approximation of the computer-generated designs. To make this, stem cells of African clawed frog ( Xenopus lavis) happen taken, ergo these robots tend to be known as xenobots .

After his father's death, Christopher Tolkien began working on his father's manuscripts and helped publish "The Silmarillion", which chronicles the origins of Middle-earth and its people.

He also took issue with Peter Jackson's critically acclaimed Lord of the Rings adaptation, telling French newspaper Le Monde in 2012 that the book had been "gutted" to make "an action film for 15 to 25-year-olds".

"Christopher's commitment to his father's works has seen dozens of publications released, and his own work as an academic in Oxford demonstrates his ability and skill as a scholar", Gunner added. He edited and published such monumental works as The Silmarillion, The Unfinished Tales, The Book of Lost Tales, The History of Middle-earth and, in recent years, the individually released tales of The Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien, and The Fall of Gondolin.

Upon receiving The Bodley Medal in 2016 for all his work editing his father's posthumous writings, Christopher said: "Although I have never looked for anything remotely of such a kind, I find it especially welcome to receive the Bodley Medal in that it affirms the unique significance of my father's creation and accords a worthy place in the Republic of Letters to Tolkien scholarship". "The most charming of men, and a true gentleman, it was an honor and privilege to know and work with him and our thoughts are with his family at this time".

Survivors include his wife, Baillie Tolkien; his sister, Priscilla; and three children, Simon, Adam and Rachel.
