The new Corvette is the first mid-engined vehicle in the marque's 67 year history. Packing a 496 horsepower V8, one can easily hit the speed limit (and beyond) in a matter of seconds.

The pair were clocked going about 100 miles per hour (160 km/h) on a public road in Bowling Green, Ky., according to news outlets citing Kentucky State Police.

Both men were released on bond and face charges for racing, reckless driving and speeding.

Astros fined $5 million and have manager, GM suspended
The league also is investigating whether the Astros might have engaged in similar behavior over the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Astros owner Jim Crane later fired both Luhnow and Hinch, saying "We will not have this happen again on my watch".

The Ontario residents are temporarily living in Bowling Green, where General Motors has an assembly plant that produces the that Chevrolet Corvette the two suspects are alleged to have raced.

General Motors, said in a statement to Automobile Magazine, the company was investigating the incident.

According to their LinkedIn profiles, Thim is a CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) engineer working on induction and exhaust systems, and Derkatz is an electrical engineer - both employees for General Motors. "We have no further comment at this time", GM told Automobile.

USA media reports say one of the drivers was an engineer who specialised in induction and exhaust systems while the other was an electrical engineer.

The new mid-engine 2020 Corvette Stingray is seen at the Next Generation Corvette Reveal event in Irvine, California on July 18, 2019.
