The Academy Snubs Beyonce And Jennifer Lopez At 2020 Oscars

Britain's Cynthia Erivo, Anthony Hopkins, Jonathan Pryce and Florence Pugh are all up for acting prizes.

Martin Scorsese, up for best director for "The Irishman", is the most nominated living director with nine. He also congratulated "Waterboy" actress Kathy Bates a.k.a. "Mama", who was nominated for her performance in Clint Eastwood's "Richard Jewell".

Another Netflix movie, "Marriage Story", received six nominations - Best Picture, Actor in a Leading Role (Adam Driver), Actress in a Leading Role (Scarlett Johansson), Actress in a Supporting Role (Laura Dern), Original Screenplay (Noah Baumbach) and Original Score (Randy Newman). Five of those, most recently "Roma" previous year, won the foreign film Oscar but not best picture.

The most likely candidate was Greta Gerwig ("Little Women"), who was the last woman nominated, two years ago for "Lady Bird". The then 33-year-old made her solo directorial debut with the coming-of-age film, starring Saoirse Ronan, and she was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay.

Just Eat Bidding War is Over - Prosus Walks Away, TakeAway Is Victorious
We have been clear throughout that we would remain disciplined in how we allocate our capital and the price that we would offer. Prosus had argued it has the resources to make the significant investments in Just Eat necessary for it to stay competitive.

And sometimes the best a film can hope for is to announce that it is an Academy Award nominee. The 71-year-old was last nominated 17 years ago for a supporting role in About Schmidt, and was a leading-actress victor in 1991 for Misery.

Thomas Newman, nominated for best original score for his work on "1917", is part of an extended family film-scoring dynasty with almost 100 nominations between them.

She hasn't a chance this year - the prize will nearly certainly go to Dern - but it's nice to know that a septuagenarian isn't out of the game. Joaquin Phoenix, unsurprisingly, has also landed a nomination for best leading actor in a leading role.
