'Silence of the Lambs' TV series heading to CBS

Even though the character has an interesting arc in Silence of the Lambs, any series following her without the presence of Hannibal Lecter will probably just be your average network crime thriller.

Hannibal fans (or Fannibals, which this author counts unashamedly counts himself one of) have been left repeatedly disappointed in their efforts to revive the series since it was cancelled in 2015, and news of CBS proceeding with a pilot for a Silence of the Lambs spin-off won't be encouraging.

In the series, the beloved character is expected to continue her work as an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent attempting to expose and incriminate serial rapists and murderers "while navigating the high-stakes political world of Washington, D.C".

The character of Starling originated in the novel The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris, which was subsequently adapted into the film of the same name in 1991.

"After more than 20 years of silence, we're privileged to give voice to one of America's most enduring heroes - Clarice Starling". Finally, Heather Kadin will executive produce the series and Aaron Baiers will co-executive produce. But hers is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory.

An actress has not yet been announced to play the lead role.

Recovering Andreescu to miss Australian Open
Before she pulled out of the tournament, she was the second favourite to with the Australia Open despite her knee injury. The 19-year-old Canadian began her breakthrough 2019 season by losing in the Auckland final to Germany's Julia Goerges.

Fans will no doubt be aware that Fuller had optioned Ellen Page as an ideal candidate to play the character in a modern setting, but his other pitch sounded much more compelling, in that it would reimagine Clarice as a black woman and how her lived experiences, presumably, would influence her time in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. However the awards weren't enough to bring Foster back for the next film, with Julianne Moore cast as Clarice for the 2001 sequel film Hannibal.

Side note: Right around the time that NBC ordered Hannibal, MGM and Lifetime tried to develop a Silence of the Lambs prequel series based on Clarice.

Deadline reported that the Hannibal Lecter character will not be featured in the project, which has "received a big series commitment" from the network.

Also on board is Jenny Lumet, who previously wrote Rachel Getting Married and will be on board to write and produce Clarice.

Kurtzman is also working on the Star Trek content for CBS All Access, including Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard.
