OR girl dead, boy missing after being swept into ocean

7-year-old girl died 4-year-old boy missing after they were swept out to sea with father

A 7-year-old girl has died and a 4-year-old boy is missing after they were swept out to sea while being held by their father in OR on Saturday, officials say.

Her father is expected to survive.

A father and his two children were swept into the ocean near Falcon Cove south of Cannon Beach on Saturday afternoon.

47-year-old Jeremy Stiles of Portland and his 7-year-old daughter were rescued.

NBC affiliate KGW of Portland reported that onlookers were flocking to OR beaches Saturday to see the waves and tides, but it wasn't immediately clear if the trio were drawn there by the forecast.

The hours-long search for the boy was suspended once it became dark.

Images of Samsung’s next in Galaxy series leaked; confirms Galaxy S20 name
There are said to be four lenses at work here with a standard wide-angle, ultra wide-angle, portrait and macro option all present. Images of a device purported to be Samsung's as-yet-unrevealed Galaxy S20 popped up on XDA Developers on Sunday.

An officer arrived to find the man struggling, his daughter farther out in the ocean.

Authorities advised locals to stay away from jetties, logs and rocks on the beach which could be lifted up by waves as they experienced some of the worst conditions of the winter. Their search was suspended at sunset and there are no plans to resume the search.

The girl and her father weren't responsive, the station reported. "We're obviously hoping for the best, but at this point it's very challenging".

The National Weather Service issued a beach hazards statement for the North and Central Coast of OR that remains in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday.

The names of the child victims have not been released.

State police confirmed the Cannon Beach Fire Department, Cannon Beach Police Department and Manzanita Police Department sent officers to assist at the scene of the incident. The service forecast waves as high as 25 feet, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted an 8.52-foot high tide at 12:31 p.m. Saturday. 'People can be swept off rocks and jetties and drown while observing the high surf'.
