Serious security issues found in a very popular iOS/Android app

ByteDance: We're not selling a stake in TikTok

The lawmakers wrote that they were concerned about who sees the personal data generated by TikTok users in the U.S. In a subsequent email, Senator Schumer wrote "apps like TikTok.may pose serious risks to millions of Americans and deserve greater scrutiny".

For example, the researchers noticed the platform allows users to receive a link to download the app via an SMS message which can be requested through the official website. Attackers could have benefited from this to send users malicious links containing malware that would then allow them to take control over users' accounts, upload content in their names, and delete or even make private videos public.

Experts from Israeli cybersecurity company Check Point found that vulnerabilities in TikTok left users vulnerable to being contacted by hackers.

'Data is pervasive, and our latest research shows that the most popular apps are still at risk, ' said Oded Vanunu, Check Point's head of product vulnerability research.

Chinese-owned video social media app TikTok is reportedly banning "misleading information" from its platform.

Check Point informed TikTok of its findings on November 20, and the company reported they had patched all the security flaws by December 15.

'Like many organisations, we encourage responsible security researchers to privately disclose zero-day vulnerabilities to us. Check Point agreed that the problems it found were fixed in the latest version of TikTok's app, Deshotels said. "We hope that this successful resolution will encourage further collaboration with security researchers".

Sir Elton John Donates $1 Million To Australia's Bushfire Relief Efforts
Chris Hemsworth and his family are not the only celebrities who have stepped up to try to make a difference in Australia . Elton John also said he will donate $ 1 million for fire assistance, an announcement he made during a concert in Sydney.

Cybersecurity researchers at CheckPoint Research announce they have discovered "several vulnerabilities" on TikTok.

Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) previous year requested in a letter to Joseph Macguire, the acting director of national intelligence, that TikTok be the subject of a national security investigation.

A cybersecurity firm has called attention to security holes in TikTok that would have allowed hackers to infiltrate the accounts among its billion-plus users, another black eye for a Chinese-owned social media phenom that's drawn fire from US lawmakers. According to the researchers, an attacker can send an SMS message to any phone number on behalf of TikTok with a modified download URL to a malicious page created to execute code on a targeted device with already installed TikTok app.

TikTok has been under a lot of scrutiny lately and even the USA government has banned the use of the app on government-owned smartphones in the army.

Check Point established it was possible to spoof text messages to make them appear to be from TikTok. The report also states that the Army has banned the use of the app on government phones after using it to try to get recruits.

"It is considered a cyber threat", Army spokesperson Robin Ochoa told Military.com at the time.
