Chile missing C-130 plane: Floating debris found

Rescue planes including this Black Hawk helicopter and ships continued searching waters off the southern tip of South America for the missing plane

The plane had 38 passengers. Its rescue team was scouring the area "where it lost communication with the plane, with the goal of rescuing possible survivors".

Earlier on Wednesday, US Southern Command announced it was dispatching a P-8 Poseidon electronic surveillance aircraft to Punta Arenas from its base in El Salvador to help aid in the search effort. The Air Force concluded early the following morning which the aircraft needs to have crashed, given the amount of hours it'd been missing.

They were found about 500 kilometers from the sydargentinske city of Ushuaia.

"We still don't have any new information, but we are making every effort to be able to find the plane", government spokeswoman Karla Rubilar told Chilean radio.

Air force flight controllers lost contact with the US-made aircraft at 6.13 pm Monday, when it was about 500km from its destination.

Pigeons wearing cowboy hats are roaming Las Vegas, and nobody knows why
For several days, multicolored-cowboy-hat-wearing pigeons have been spotted strutting the streets in Las Vegas . As soon as Hillman pulled into the gated community, she saw the red-hatted pigeon, perched to the right.

The Chilean air force released a map of the plane's flight path and a timeline showing it had been due to land at 19:17 at its Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva base in the Antarctic. They were en route to check on a floating fuel supply line and other equipment at the Chilean base.

President Sebastián Piñera has said on Twitter that he is with the Defense and Home Secretary at the Air Force Headquarters, which is monitoring developments.

The president had shared his thoughts and prayers with the families of the 38 passengers. He added that he had canceled a trip to Argentina to attend December 10's inauguration of incoming President Alberto Fernandez. He also pointed out that the pilot of the aircraft had extensive experience and postulated that he may have been forced to put the plane down on water.

The plane took off in favorable conditions, though it was flying in an area notorious for rapidly changing weather, with freezing temperatures and strong winds.

The air force said it flies this route monthly. This part of the sea has a reputation for having intense conditions of weather such as vicious storms. Most of those on the missing plane are air force personnel, but also aboard were three people from the army, two from a private construction company and an official from a Chilean university.
