Greta Thunberg joins march in Madrid

Madrid is hosting two-week, UN-sponsored talks aimed at streamlining the rules on global carbon markets and agreeing on how poor countries should be compensated for destruction largely caused by emissions from rich nations.

At last year's United Nations climate change talks, not many people knew who Greta Thunberg was.

'We would love some action by people in power because people are suffering and dying due to the climate and ecological emergency and we can't wait any longer, ' she told a news conference before the start of the rally. "I don't think anyone saw me", the 16-year-old Swede tweeted after.

But the annual meeting was transferred to Madrid because of social unrest in the Chilean capital, so Thunberg did a U-turn from the USA west coast, arriving on Tuesday in Lisbon.

The march was led by dozens of representatives of Latin America's indigenous peoples - a mark of deference after anti-government protests in Chile, the original host of the summit, resulted in the the talks suddenly being moved to Europe for the third year in a row. Wearing a hoodie and carrying her luggage, the activist and her father Svante quickly walked to a vehicle that drove them out of Madrid's northern station. "It's more than just words, promises or declarations, we have to take specific measures otherwise we won't get anywhere", said Shari Crespi, a Spanish youth activist with Fridays for Future.

In the USA, democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and actor Jane Fonda were among the politicians and celebrities planning to join in.

Greta's look right now comes after she mentioned on Friday that the worldwide wave of college strikes for the local weather over the previous 12 months has "achieved nothing" as a result of greenhouse gasoline emissions have continued to rise.

6 'probable' vaping-related lung injury cases linked to MA dispensaries
The agency uses the term EVALI as shorthand for "e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury". Illicit vaping cartridge makers can buy the empty packages and then fill them with whatever they choose.

She struck a similar tone in NY in September, when she told another United Nations summit "I shouldn't be up here", before chastising them for stealing her "dreams and my childhood with your empty words".

"Today, climate action means social equality, it's not possible to have social equality without environmental equality", she said.

"It's absurd. I laugh at it".

"With our legally-binding target to become a net-zero society by 2045, and the most ambitious and stringent climate legislation of any country in the world, Scotland is a world leader on climate change. If this is a way to write about the climate crisis, then I guess it is good".

By this meeting's close on December 13, negotiators hope to resolve remaining disagreements on how to implement an accord struck in Paris in 2015 to limit a rise in global temperatures to between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius over pre-industrial levels.

"The government must show specific actions such as abandoning coal-fired thermal power generation and expanding the use of renewable energy", said Takumi Hirasawa, 22, a third-year student at Tohoku University.

Over 3,800 organizations and corporations representing 70% of USA economic output have joined the coalition, organizers claim, amounting to roughly half of the country's emissions.
