OECD Student Assessment: Georgia 70th among 79 Countries

Ireland’s 15-year-olds came third out of 27 EU countries for reading literacy

Results of the 2018 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) found American teens showed no actual improvement in reading, math, and science compared to the 2015 results.

Of the Nordic countries, Finland scored the highest in reading (520) and science (522), and Denmark clinched the top spot in mathematics (509).

As the main focus of Pisa 2018, the reading component tested students on locating relevant information, discerning between fact and opinion, as well as assessing the credibility of information.

"Overall, in maths and science results are relatively stable and our students are performing at an above average level, yet we can improve further".

Amin said the difference in reading behaviour between boys and girls showed that 77 per cent of boys read only for the information needed compared to 58 per cent of girls reading for the same goal. Most students did the test on computers.

"That is why the OECD produces this triennial report... to share evidence of the best policies and practices and to offer our timely and targeted support to help countries provide the best education possible for all of their students".

The results were recorded in Pisa tests run by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Bigger European nations languished well behind in the rankings, with Britain in 14th place, Germany 20th and France 23rd.

Yet some countries have shown an impressive improvement, the report explained.

"High-performing countries generally take their teachers from the top 30 per cent of academic achievers".

Student, Officer Injured in Another High School Shooting

In Turkey, female students are 25 points ahead of male students in the field of reading.

Scottish teenagers are only reading because "they have to" rather than for enjoyment, a new report has revealed.

And in the sciences too, Greek pupils shed three points past year to 452, when the average came to 489. These students, at a minimum, can interpret and recognize how simple situations can be approached mathematically, such as converting prices into different currencies, the organization said.

The Chinese region of BSJZ (Beijing-Shanghai-Jiangsu-Guangdong) was the highest-ranking region with a score of 1,736, followed by Singapore, Macao, and Hong Kong. This compares to only 2.4% in OECD countries.

The average score for maths and science among English pupils was "significantly higher" than those in the rest of the country, according to the National Foundation for Educational Research which analysed the results. Fewer students agreed that other students liked them and that they felt like they belonged at school, and more said they felt lonely and awkward at school.

Australia should be a leader in school education.

Average U.S. scores didn't change significantly in any of those subjects since 2015.

An global survey has concluded that the world's best and brightest students are found in China - or at least in the country's most affluent areas.

In science, while Irish students scored significantly higher than the OECD average, the overall trend is negative, in particular the drop in number s achieving at the top of the scale, down nearly 4pc since 2006.

Within the United Kingdom, students from Northern Ireland slightly outperformed their counterparts in Wales but were a little behind those in England in reading, maths and science.
