Man acquitted in fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin sues the teen's family

Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman in 2012. Zimmerman is suing Martin's family

George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer acquitted of homicide charges in the 2012 fatal shooting of unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, is suing Martin's family, prosecutors and others involved in the case he claims rested on false evidence, according to a copy of the suit sent to the media Wednesday. Also being sued are the former prosecutors in the previous Zimmerman case, and Harper Collins, which published a book written by Ben Crump, the attorney who represented Martin's family.

The lawsuit cites allegedly newly discovered information presented in an upcoming documentary, The Trayvon Hoax: Unmasking the Witness Fraud that Divided America, directed by Joel Gilbert.

It should go without saying that this documentary is rooted in neither truth, nor facts.

The lawsuit upholds Zimmerman's version of the events, along with allegations of efforts by the Martin family to produce a false narrative through dishonest accounts from witnesses. "He would have us believe that he is the innocent victim of a deep conspiracy, despite the complete lack of any credible evidence to support his outlandish claims".

George Zimmerman and his lawyers filed a lawsuit in a Polk County Circuit Court on Wednesday seeking $100 million in civil damages, alleging defamation, abuse of civil process and conspiracy, the Miami Herald reports.

Zimmerman's attorneys argue that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the state of Florida, and several state attorneys worked together to carry out an unjust prosecution against Zimmerman.

George Zimmerman, who was charged with Trayvon Martin's death, has now made a decision to sue Martin's family, proving that he is truly the most despicable Florida man.

The claim states that Crump produced a recording of "Diamond Eugene", Martin's 16-year-old girlfriend with whom the teen had spoken before his altercation with Zimmerman. They also allege that Jeantel lied repeatedly in court, while Martin's supposed "real girlfriend", Brittany Diamond Eugene, "refused to bear false witness" against Zimmerman.

'This tale defies all logic, and it's time to close the door on these baseless imaginings'. Zimmerman claimed he shot Martin in self-defense during a scuffle.

The film was set to screen at the Coral Gables Art Cinema on Thursday following a press conference with Klayman, Zimmerman and Gilbert.

Zimmerman is represented by Larry Klayman, a high-profile legal crusader tied to conservative causes and the founder of Judicial Watch before splitting with the activist group. Earlier this year, a legal ethics panel of the Washington bar association called for Klayman to be suspended from practicing law for almost three years for "egregious" misconduct after he harassed a woman who rejected his romantic advances.
