Body of missing woman found in Outback

An emergency dash across Australia by two women to find their missing triplet sister has ended in tragedy with the discovery of Claire Hockridge's body.

Northern Territory Police said in a statement the body is "believed to be that of Claire Hockridge".

Mr Tran was found by a pastoralist on Tuesday about 12km from the ute.

Ms Hockridge was travelling with South Australian man Phu Tran and another woman by the name of Tamra McBeath-Riley.

Superintendent Vicary said they were concerned this morning that Ms Hockridge had run out of water, but that there were still hopes she had managed to survive.

Police have yet to formally confirm that the remains found south of the town of Alice Springs are of Claire Hockridge, 46.

But events took a dire turn when the vehicle bogged down in the bed of Finke River, leaving the group stranded.

Ms McBeath-Riley said she was "worried to death" about her two friends who had meant to go towards the Stuart Highway, about 22 kilometres from where they separated.

Sarah Hockridge, who had travelled from her farm at Wave Rock in Western Australia, thanked everyone involved in helping them, singling out Detective Matt Hughes who was in constant contact.

The mother of three, described as a "one-woman WikiLeaks", was killed in a vehicle bombing near her home in October 2017. But some want Muscat to leave office now, and up to 4,000 demonstrators gathered near parliament's entrance Monday.

Mr Tran told Mr Fogarty he had left Ms Hockridge behind to look for help.

"Even though Claire has died in awful circumstances, we are glad Tamra and Phu have been found alive and well and we're extremely grateful for everyone involved in that".

Ms Hockridge, 46, was in a group of three people who became stranded in the central Australian outback a fortnight ago.

After almost two weeks, Ms McBeath-Riley was found on Sunday after police discovered the trio's vehicle which had become bogged in the Hugh River.

For a few days, the group stayed close to the vehicle, surviving on the limited supplies they had packed, McBeath-Riley said.

Daytime temperatures in the Australian outback often exceed 40C (104F), with temperatures plummeting after sundown.

They had used up all their supplies of water, as well as some vodka drinks, biscuits and beef noodles they had in the auto.

His account had narrowed the search for Ms Hockridge, police said, and they later found footprints believed to be hers.

Ms McBeath-Riley spoke outside hospital on Monday, saying she was "worried to death", because she thought the pair - who had a Global Positioning System and compass with them - would have earlier reached the Stuart Highway.
