Zuckerberg defends allowing false ads on Facebook, saying company shouldn’t be ‘censoring’

BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg is quoted saying

Mark Zuckerberg says people should "judge for themselves" when it comes to political advertising. Zuckerberg believes in open, uncensored political speech - until asked by a reporter about a secret, private dinner he had with the USA president. The Facebook CEO had previously defended his position during a speech at Georgetown and in comments to the Washington Post in October, saying "in a democracy, I think that people should be able to hear for themselves what politicians are saying".

"Quite a whole lot of other folk occupy pretty hundreds of utterly different opinions", he acknowledged, repeating his stand that folk must "take into chronicle for themselves what politicians are announcing".

The dinner, convened at a time the President was openly discouraging Facebook from banning political ads, wasn't disclosed by the White House and only became public after the fact via news reports.

Requested referring to the letter in the direction of the CBS interview, Zuckerberg acknowledged "right here is clearly a extremely advanced arena".

Facebook has chose to kill a 15-second ad from the U.K. Conservative Party due to intellectual property concerns. That means politicians can run ads with lies on Facebook, and Facebook won't stop those ads from running, nor will it inform users that the ad contains lies.

On Thursday, the Tories rejected a request from the BBC's lawyers to remove the 15-second video.

Jones Offer Lukewarm Support For Garrett
Dallas reached its lowest point of the season on Thanksgiving, when nearly every unit struggled in a double-digit loss to Buffalo. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has suggested his franchise's coach will have a job in the National Football League next season.

Zuckerberg furthermore mentioned President Trump really did not try to entrance hall him throughout an individual setting up in October on the White Home.

Zuckerberg said: "We talked about a number of things that were on his mind".

"From a business perspective", he told House Financial Services Chair Maxine Waters, "the very small percent of our business that is made up of political ads does not come anywhere close to justifying the controversy".

Trump, who has vocally supported political ads, has openly castigated Facebook repeatedly, accusing it of being biased in favour of Democrats. "And some of the topics that you'd read about in the news around, around our work", Zuckerberg said.

ZUCKERBERG: "Ah, sure, I mean, we talked about, ahm, a number of things that were on his mind, and, um, some of the topics that you'd read about in the news around, around, um, our work". "I also want to respect that it was a private dinner and...private discussion", he said.
