U.S. President Trump says UK PM Boris Johnson "very capable"

President Trump meets with British Prime Minister Johnson on sidelines of U.N. General Assembly in New York City

The President said Erdogan's comments were "interesting" and praised the ongoing work of the alliance, remarking: "NATO serves a great objective".

Explicitly linking his complaint that Europe does not pay enough for NATO's security missions to his staunch "America First" defence of USA commercial interests, Trump said it was time for Europe to "shape up" on both fronts. They have a very high unemployment rate in France, they are not doing well economically at all. There were no immediate details of a one-to-one meeting.

Trump waded into the election in October by asserting opposition Labor Celebration chief Jeremy Corbyn would perchance per chance be "so unsuitable" for Britain and that Johnson would perchance per chance merely soundless agree on a pact with Brexit Celebration chief Nigel Farage.

The spat comes as their host at the London summit, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, is otherwise engaged in a divisive election campaign. Johnson has denied the accusation.

There has also been speculation about the amount of money that individual members invest in their armed forces, and a trump of the first calls on European allies and Canada to increase their spending.

The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau is now not in the country, as they flew to London, where she plans to spend the next few days trying to give North Atlantic Treaty Organisation the military Alliance momentum amid the existential questions about its future and at the same time protecting the place of Canada in the Union. "And sometimes they work with ISIS proxies", Macron said at a news conference with US President Donald.

"NATO is an institution where Turkey has full veto rights, politically and militarily, and there are procedures here", the source said.

"The President will also emphasize the need for the NATO Alliance to ensure its readiness for the threats of tomorrow, including those emanating from cyberspace, those affecting our critical infrastructure and telecommunications networks, and those posed by terrorism", said the White House press secretary in the mid-November statement.

Johnson has made clear that he would not welcome any input from Trump at such a sensitive time in the campaign, after the USA president offered his endorsement over the summer.

Mr Macron told The Economist Magazine last month that Washington's antipathy to the military alliance should prompt the European Union (EU) to step up as a world power. On Monday, the USA said it would impose tariffs on France in retaliation for a new French tax on digital services provided by American technology companies.

Trump struck a softer tone than earlier in the day saying that the the two leaders "have a minor dispute" - just hours after slamming the the French President. He repeated his criticism Tuesday of Democrats who control the House of Representatives, saying it is unfair to hold hearings while he is attending the summit.

Corbyn has also emphasized fears many Britons have that plans for a free-trade deal with the USA could harm their National Health Service (NHS).

Mr Johnson is expected to try to play peacemaker when he hosts the two leaders, together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, for talks in Downing Street on Tuesday ahead of the main gathering.

"China is actively seeking a great presence and more influence across the globe, including in Nato's area of responsibility", said a senior administration official.
