Cop shoots armed student at Wisconsin school

But Jack said the student would not remove his hands from his pockets - and ignored officers' commands.

Other officers responded to the classroom and began talking with the suspect in an attempt to deescalate the situation.

Waukesha Police Chief Russell Jack said around 10:15 a.m., a student at the school reported that another student brought a handgun to school and was in possession of it.

A report says that on the same day that an officer-involved shooting happened at Waukesha South High School, another high school in the city went on lockdown.

The officer had rushed to a classroom after a student saw a classmate with a handgun, authorities said. He was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Waukesha police responded to South High School around 11 a.m. Monday. They told reporters outside the school that they knew it wasn't a drill when they heard two or three gunshots.

Parents gathered outside and hugged students as they streamed out of the school in Waukesha, which is about 18 miles (30 kilometers) west of Milwaukee. Waukesha Police are calling it an "isolated incident" and are not seeking other suspects.
