Bloomberg apologizes for stop-and-frisk police policy

Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor of NY who has made moves towards running as a presidential candidate, has apologised for backing the city's "stop and frisk" policy.

Speaking at the Christian Cultural Center, a black megachurch in Brooklyn, Bloomberg spoke adamantly of the shortcomings of the policy.

The questionable practice involving police briefly detaining, questioning and sometimes searching random people on the streets for weapons or other illegal possessions was particularly robust during the times when Bloomberg was mayor. "I got something really important wrong... stops on the black and Latino community", an emotional Bloomberg said.

"But I can't change history, however today I want you to know that I realize back then I was wrong and I'm sorry". "But as we know, good intentions aren't good enough", he said.

If Bloomberg runs, The New York Daily News is reporting that he plans to spend upwards of $100 million on anti-Trump advertising.

Michael Bloomberg, preparing to jump in the race for president, apologized Sunday for the NYPD's aggressive stop and frisk of young minority men while he was mayor.

Democrats hold on to Louisiana governor’s seat despite Trump’s best efforts
Trump is eager to see Rispone regain the governorship for the GOP, particularly after Kentucky Republican Gov. He offered few specifics about his agenda. "We have to do something different", Rispone said this week.

Bloomberg, who has filed paperwork to enter the presidential primaries in Alabama and Arkansas, said that as he looked to the future, he also reflected on instances in the past where he "came up short". A total of 605,328, or 88%, of the people stopped were innocent, NYCLU data shows.

"I'd like to see if those experiences and that aptitude and that skill set can be offered in service to our nation". "I wish we had and I'm sorry that we didn't", he told the congregation Sunday.

If Trump were to refuse to leave, "I'm confident that the security forces, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the police agencies and the intelligence agencies and the military, because he's so denigrated them so badly" would not stand for it, Biden said. He added that "the result of that was, over the years, the murder rate in New York City went from 650 a year to 300 a year when I left". Still, he that while he "wasn't insane about super PAC money either", he wouldn't tell people to stop using the instruments to raise money for him.

Bloomberg's successor, Mayor Bill de Blasio made ending the practice a centerpiece of his first run for office.

Bloomberg told the congregation the policy eroded trust with the public and he aimed to earn back that trust, the Times reported.

"I think that's pretty important at a time when not just the party in some respects but the nation is deeply divided".
