Snowfall advisory in effect for central Ontario: Environment Canada

"Gusty" northeast winds will whip off Lake Ontario and, combined with the "higher terrain" of the Niagara Escarpment, mean some spots between Hamilton and northern Niagara could see enhanced snowfall up to 25 cm, according to Environment Canada.

Ottawa could see the first major snowfall of the season with 5 to 10 cm of snow expected between Monday and Tuesday. The college will continue to monitor the weather situation throughout the day and any updates will be posted to their twitter account.

"The snow is blowing and it is only November 11 so it will be some temporary respite at least for some people who need to come in from the cold tonight". To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.

"As soon as we found out there was going to be a significant weather event today we began bringing in the crews and the equipment".

Amazon's pre-Black Friday sale is here: Shop the best deals
Walmart always starts the Black Friday sales with a party where huge deals are offered on coffee, hot chocolate and cookies. Given his past success snagging impressive deals, we asked if he's going shopping on the day after Thanksgiving this year.

Light snow will move into the region early this morning and become heavy at times this afternoon and continue tonight.

Communities under advisories are where we will likely see the most snowfall.

"Travel will be impacted Monday due to accumulating snow, particularly during the afternoon commute", said the advisory.

The snowfall is due to a developing low-pressure system which will track south of the lower Great Lakes on Monday, Environment Canada says. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become hard to navigate due to accumulating snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.
