If Your YouTube Account Isn't 'Commercially Viable' Google Will Delete It

Youtube

The exact wording of the new terms, set to come into effect in the USA on December 10, reads: "YouTube may terminate your access, or your Google account's access to all or part of the Service if YouTube believes, in its sole discretion, that provision of the Service to you is no longer commercially viable".

YouTube is updating their Terms of Service on 10 December, 2019. It now says that YouTube has the "sole discretion" to terminate an account, whereas before it said that YouTube must "reasonably believe" it should do so.

"Where YouTube is terminating your access for Service changes, where reasonably possible, you will be provided with sufficient time to export your Content from the Service".

What could this mean moving forward?

Brother of Michigan State's Cassius Winston struck and killed by train
A short time ago, Michigan State associate head coach Dane Fife confirmed Zachary's death and tweeted a tribute to him. A University of MI student was struck and killed by train, Friday evening, in Washtenaw County.

Several users reposted the policy update, with claims that YouTube are going to start terminating channels if they don't make enough money, which has caused anger among the community. While YouTube was once the only obvious place for burgeoning video stars to make their mark, Facebook's wide reach and willingness to has the social networking site into an attractive video platform. This is a section that really shows how Google's changes make the entire document easier to read and understand by the average user.

As written, these broad terms essentially allow YouTube to "cherry-pick" what accounts aren't pulling in enough advertising dollars and revenue. While it's unlikely they'll ever stop people from viewing their content, they've got the right to block you from walking around in their virtual building, speaking with other YouTube viewers, and generally benefitting from their service in any way other than viewing their videos from afar.

The "no longer commercially viable" wording has the vlogging crowd anxious that YouTube is empowering itself to shut down niche video channels that mainstream advertisers don't like.

However, on the flip-side, it does give the platform the right to remove those accounts which distribute hate speech or other violent rhetoric such as white supremacist content, terroristic content, and of course harassing/bullying-like content. This affects everybody, including you're favorite content creators, and you. One of the most controversial clauses that creators have tweeted about since YouTube began alerting people to the upcoming changes has to do with termination.
