Lions' Stafford ruled out vs. Bears

Mitchell Trubisky

Stafford is said to have fractured bones in his back and has been sidelined as "doctors wanted him to have further testing", per ESPN. Now, at least for one game, they'll be without him.

The Chicago Bears snapped their four-game losing streak with a 20-13 victory over division rivals the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Soldier Field.

Stafford has been a regular on the Lions' injury report since two days before the team's September 27 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, when he popped up with a hip injury that left him questionable to play in that weekend's game. He had been listed as questionable on the injury report and was practicing through the week while hoping to play through the pain. According to ESPN, he almost missed the Lions' home game against the Chiefs in Week 4 due to the pain in his back. Got to the stadium this morning, met with the doctors and wasn't medically cleared to play today so he's deactivated.

Jeff Driskel is stepping in for Stafford. Driskel is making his sixth career start.

Stafford suffered this injury when he was hit in the upper back while scrambling in last week's loss to the Oakland Raiders.

"I'm fine", he said.

The Bears came right back and took a 7-6 halftime lead on a 17-yard TD pass from Mitch Trubisky to Ben Braunecker with just 25 seconds left in the half. "I'll be good to go".

Stafford downplayed the extent of his current injury Wednesday, when he said he planned to play against the Bears.

His injury was considered week-to-week, which a source told ESPN could mean "this week or 3 weeks".

November 9: ESPN reports Stafford is being told not to play against the Bears, but the QB wants to play through the pain of the back injury.
