Erdogan announces capturing of Al-Baghdadi's wife

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan revealed for the primary time on Wednesday that she had been detained.

Turkey has claimed to have captured a wife of the former IS chief, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who blew himself up following a United States operation.

Erdogan in his speech Tuesday didn't provide any other details about the detainees, but he did appear to take a shot at US leaders, noting Turkey "didn't make a fuss" after capturing the trio.

On Tuesday, Turkey said it had taken into custody al-Baghdadi's sister Rasmiya Awad during a raid in the Syrian town of Azaz, as well as her husband, daughter-in-law and five children.

The group last week announced Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi as its new leader after a United States commando raid killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the chief of the ultra-violent movement.

He expressed his rejection to the West's use of the term "Islamicterrorism", noting that "the terrorist is a person who kills people forhis own cause and this does not mean that a Muslim is a terrorist".

The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, says Turkey has captured the wife, sister and brother-in-law of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

She was said to be the "first wife" of the IS leader, who was killed in a USA special forces raid in Syria last month.

Baghdadi was killed in Syria in late October in a raid carried out by USA troops.

Baghdadi, the Associated Press says, was known to have four wives. Erdogan made the announcement while delivering a speech in Ankara on Wednesday but gave no other details.

One of the women is an Iraqi known as Nour, the daughter of one of his aides. She was arrested in Lebanon in 2014 and freed a year later in an al-Qaidaprisoner swap. At one point, al-Baghdadi was also believed to have married to a German teenager in 2015 but she was reported to have fled a year later.

The Turkish leader's comments were his second effort in as many days to publicize his country's push to catch IS members who were close to al-Baghdadi. The US president had said that a "large number" of Islamic State terrorists were also killed in the raid.

Up and until his death, al-Baghdadi had moved from place to place in eastern Syria amid a tightening US -led campaign against his group as IS-held territory fell bit by bit.

She was stated to be the "first wife" of the ISIS chief, who was killed in a USA particular forces raid in Syria final month.
