Dawid Malan's stunning century sets up England rout in fourth T20 worldwide

Auckland hosts the fifth and final match on Sunday.

The 182-run partnership between Malan and Morgan for the third wicket is now the highest ever stand for the Three Lions across all wickets.

Malan became only the second Englishman to hit a century in a Twenty20 worldwide when he smacked his sixth six, reaching the mark quicker than Alex Hales with his 60-ball hundred against Sri Lanka during the 2014 World Cup. Even before this match, he had a fine T20I record - he had registered five half-centuries in his first eight T20I games - but probably needed to produce something special to remain in contention for selection once the likes of Jason Roy, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes return to the side. The 32-year-old smashed 9 fours and 6 sixes during the course of his innings. And, having reached his half-century from 31 balls, he accelerated sharply to record his century just 17 deliveries later.

Malan became just the second Englishman to make a century in the format, but was considerably more rapidly than Alex Hales' 60-ball work from Sri Lanka in 2014.

New Zealand, requiring their highest total batting second to win, started well in reply. Gaining no assistance from the surface or the conditions, they found their variations picked comfortably by the England pair and the short boundaries - particularly square of the wicket - unforgiving of any error.

The pair combined to hit 16 fours and 13 sixes as their 100 partnership came up from just 49 balls - Tim Southee the next man to see an over punished for 20 - and while Morgan was caught in the deep for a second and third time, the crowd was immediately silenced on both occasions due to the deliveries being correctly deemed as over waist-height.

Malan, who walked in at no.3, joined forces with Morgan to tore into the hapless New Zealand bowlers. He struck seven sixes in his innings, the joint-most by an England batsman in a T20I innings.

21 - Balls taken by Morgan to complete his fifty, the fastest by an England batsman in the format.
