Bill Gates: ‘I Made a Mistake’ in Meeting With Jeffrey Epstein

Bill Gates

Warren's apparent willingness to stiff billionaires seemed a bit too much for Gates to swallow. But when you say I should pay $100 billion, then I'm starting to do a little math about what I have leftover.

"I'm always happy to meet with people, even if we have different views", Warren wrote.

Warren then responded on Twitter that she would be happy to meet with Gates, and reassured him the price tag he would pay to the government under her plan wouldn't be almost what he fears.

Gates expressed some apprehension about the "wealth tax" proposed by Democrats Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, admitting he'd only be willing to fork over so much of his massive fortune. "Now nobody here has ever heard of Windows Mobile", Gates said. While speaking to The New York Times' DealBook conference, Gates described the legal battle as a distraction.

The push for a wealth tax and increasing discussions about income inequality in the USA come as popular equity benchmarks the Dow, the broad-market S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq trade at all-time highs.

When asked who he'd vote for if Warren were to face off with Donald Trump, Gates - who has openly criticized the Republican president in the past - said he'd opt for the "more professional" candidate. I've paid more than anyone in taxes.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates became the latest billionaire to share his perspective on Warren's tax plan, saying the lack of incentive would curb business innovation in the United States, reported the BBC.

Taylor, Kent, Yovanovitch Will Be First Public Impeachment Testimonies Next Week
The interim ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent will testify on November 13. In fact, Ambassador Sondland said everything was dependent on such an announcement, including security assistance.

Under Warren's plan, a 2% tax on household net worth of $50 million and $1 billion would be taxed at 2%, while those with a net worth above $1 billion would be taxed at a 3% rate.

Given that wealth consolidation has been such a hot topic this election season, it's no surprise that Gates's comments reverberated online nearly immediately, with some expressing anti-billionaire comments and others defending him.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Thursday rolled out a calculator for billionaires to find out how much they'd pay under her wealth tax proposal - with a tongue-in-cheek addition for billionaire Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who had a chilly reception to her tax proposal.

"I'm not going to make political declarations", he said.

Others had more general scorn, suggesting there was no such thing as a "good billionaire" and Twitter about his relationship with now-deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

"I'm not as phone-centric as they are", Gates said. Microsoft faced a similar scenario back when Gates was still running the show. "You know, I'm not sure how open-minded she is", the billionaire philanthropist continued.

Gates adds, "Should rich people pay more in taxes?"
