Two murder suspects captured at Mexico border after escaping California jail

Monterey County Sheriff's office shows a ceiling hole used by murder suspects Jonathan Salazar and Santos Fonseca to escape from the Monterey County Adult Detention Facility in Salinas Calif. early on Nov. 3 2019

The inmates had cut a hole in the ceiling of the Salinas facility and climbed out of it to escape, according to a local ABC affiliate.

A heavy law enforcement presence was spotted in Marina as police responded to reports of one of the escaped inmates from the Monterey County Jail.

The suspects crawled through this space - said to be 11in wide in parts - until they reached a hatch, which they forced open and escaped through.

The Monterey County Sheriff's tweet on Sunday has garnered plenty of lovely responses from Trump's America about these two being set free by our sanctuary state before they cold be nabbed by ICE, but by all accounts they were both born American citizens.

Santos Fonseca and Jonathan Salazar were awaiting trial on unrelated murder charges when they made a dramatic escape from the Monterey County Adult Detention Facility in Northern California.

They were taken into custody by Customs and Border Protection agents, according to the sheriff's office.

"We're disappointed that it happened", Thornburg said.

The outlet also noted that Deneuve was filming a scene for her upcoming film De Son Vivant when she suffered the stroke. A legend of French cinema, Deneuve, 76, was nicknamed the "Ice Maiden" because of her beauty and detached manner.

What are the charges against the men?

"I'm confident nobody left the motel after we got here, so that time between them calling and us getting here he apparently did leave". They said they were US citizens, and a check of law enforcement databases told border inspectors that they were wanted by authorities.

Fonseca is accused of shooting Lorenzo Gomez Acosta, 37, in June a year ago while the victim sat in his auto on a video call with his wife, the Californian reported.

Salazar was arrested in the shooting death of 20-year-old Jaime Martinez as the victim drove in Salinas with his girlfriend and 18-month-old son, the newspaper reported. The woman was also shot and treated at a hospital, while the child wasn't hurt.

The wife saw a scuffle, heard her husband screaming "no" and then gunshots rang out, Salinas police Officer Froylan Aranda testified at a preliminary hearing in March.

Acosta was reportedly chosen at random.

Police investigated the on October 12, 2017, shooting as gang-related.

Fonseca had been in jail after his arrest in connection with the 2018 killings of Lorenso Acosta in Salinas, Calif. on June 2 past year and Ernesto Cruz at a park in that city three days later, according to The Mercury News. Officers said his tattoos, including the letter P on his cheek, refer to his Sureño offshoot gang, La Posada Trece, the Californian reported. His trial was scheduled to begin in January.
