Pro-Beijing lawmaker in Hong Kong stabbed while campaigning

CCP says it will ‘perfect’ system for choosing HK leader

A conservative lawmaker has been stabbed in Hong Kong in one other signal of the worsening political local weather within the enclave. He said in the statement that he will keep fighting against violence and bring peace back in Hong Kong. The attacker calmly handed Ho a bouquet of flowers and then reached into his bag and pulled out a knife.

Clashes between protesters and police have become increasingly violent, polarising the city, with leading figures on both sides being physically ambushed.

It could also handle national security issues in Hong Kong by interpreting Article 23 of the Basic Law or issuing orders to the Chief Executive, he said. This year's protests, driven by withdrawn legislation that would have allowed Hong Kong residents to be extradited to China for trial, have expanded to include demands for greater democracy and more responsibility for the police.

At a news conference Wednesday in Beijing to wrap up her visit to mainland China, Hong Kong's embattled leader, Carrie Lam, condemned the attack on Ho and said she was concerned over rising public proclivity for violence. The assailant shouted at Ho with abusive remarks calling him "human scam". The two of them, along with the alleged attacker - arrested by police - were all taken to the hospital following the assault, a police source confirmed to the Telegraph. "If the central government still respects 'Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong, ' a 'high degree of autonomy, ' and 'One Country, Two Systems, ' I hope he will be more careful when making speeches in the future".

In 2018, the Hong Kong government had disqualified the candidacy of another pro-democracy activist, Agnes Chow, for the Legislative Council by-election in March of the same year due to her stance on advocating self-determination for the former British colony.

Fossil unveils new smartwatch with always-on display
Earlier this year, Google reportedly paid $40 million for Fossil smartwatch technology that could enable hybrid watches. It nearly feels like an old-school Pebble watch fused with an everyday analog-style watch.

It came after Lam's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Shanghai ahead of the China International Import Expo earlier this week. Ho was seen shaking hands with some of the attackers involved in the incident, although he has denied any collusion claiming he hadn't been aware of the violence at the time. Defending the masked men, Ho had said that the attackers were merely "defending their homes and people".

In late July, the graves of Ho's parents were vandalized and his district office ransacked. The seats are now dominated by the pro-establishment bloc. The city's top leader is picked by an election committee of about 1,200 that is controlled by pro-Beijing interests, but more than half of local lawmakers are directly elected by Hong Kong's citizens.

The party said 150 incidents of their candidates being harassed and vandalism targeting their offices had been reported in the last month...

A pro-Beijing lawmaker in Hong Kong was stabbed on Wednesday amid rising opposition to China's controlover the territory.

Pro-democracy district councillor Andrew Chiu also had part of his ear bitten off by a knife-wielding man outside a mall this week.
