NZR begin search for new All Blacks coach to succeed Steve Hansen

Silver Ferns coach Wai Taumaunu

Former Chiefs coach and current Glasgow coach Dave Rennie revealed he had been approached by New Zealand Rugby.

"This is a hugely exciting time for New Zealand Rugby", said Impey.

"This is high performance". Our standards are very high.

"If he does take that offer, we wish him all the best, on the surface it obviously looks like a terrific deal", Impey told reporters.

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) has announced the launch of its recruitment process to replace All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen, with an appointment to be made in December. It was announced previous year that Schmidt would be stepping away from the role following the tournament with defence coach Andy Farrell taking his place.

Former Wales coach Warren Gatland and Japan coach Jamie Joseph have also been named in the media as potential successors to Hansen. NZR has already started inviting applications from coaches who are familiar with the All Blacks environment.

India turns its back on the world’s biggest trade pact
An envoy from an Asean state, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he was disappointed but could understand India's decision. The countries involved produce about 29 per cent of global gross domestic product and account for half the world's population.

New Zealand Rugby has invited 26 candidates to apply for the role.

"The simple answer beyond the 26 - no", Impey said.

'This is a specialist job, you don't put an ad up on "Seek" to try and find the next All Blacks coach.

'We know that the All Blacks and New Zealand have been well served by exceptional coaches, so we are well aware of the importance of the task ahead'.

They were promoted to the Super League for the first time after beating Featherstone Rovers in the Championship playoff final last month and kick off their 2020 season against Castleford Tigers at Headingley Stadium in England on 2 February.

"So we have a best target, which is Christmas, but we've left ourselves some wriggle room".
