Dwayne Johnson Set to Portray UFC Champ Mark Kerr in Biopic

The film was announced by Johnson at a surprise press conference at Madison Square Garden while there for a guest presenter appearance for UFC 244 main event of Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal at which he will wrap the "BMF" title around the waist of the victor. The former wrestler has created an identity for himself early into his combat career by winning back to back UFC tournaments and remain undefeated for a long time.

The Rock announced during the UFC 244 pre-fight press conference that his Seven Bucks Productions company is producing a movie about the former MMA star, with The Rock attached to star as Kerr in the film.

Johnson went on to talk about his admiration for fighters like Kerr who faced adversity, and hit rock bottom, only to 'get up and do a little bit better tomorrow than we did today'. "As many of these warriors have, and I wanted to shine a spotlight on this man".

Kerr, also known as "The Specimen" and "The Titan", became a fighting champion when UFC was still a rising sport. Kerr won the UFC 14 and 15 tournaments by finishing his four opponents in a combined 5 minutes, 10 seconds. Johnson will be producing, and he will also play Kerr in the film. Johnson said that the martial arts fighter will also be involved in the project. Talking about the project, Dwayne revealed a few details about this film during the announcement at the press conference, he said, "I was drawn to this because he has such a compelling story". His career and success was chronicled in the 2003 HBO documentary, also titled Smashing Machine, as was his addiction to painkillers. Stay tuned to this space for more scoops and updates.
